I love my Sony Reader because it allows me to underline and make notes directly on the “page,” but nothing beats the feeling I get when I read something so moving that I have to scramble for the nearest writing implement to scribble notes all over a real page. Marginalia—-and the option to go back for re-readings and add new notes in a different color of ink, marking my development as a reader over time—-is one of the loves of my reading life.
Oh, printed books. I’ll never quit you.
