my parents fucking lied
talking to strangers on the internet was like the best decision of my life
Damn right^^
I remember my first internet friend. We met on the Seaquest fans BBS on Compuserve. We lost touch, of course, but I’ll never forget how, when I told my mom about him, she goes “Don’t forget, he could be a child molester.” HA.
I got to meet one of my oldest internet friends last year for the first time in real life. I’ve known Kait since 2000 when I was a senior in high school. We met through RENT. I did a lot of crazy things that year that were crazier than meeting people online. For one thing, I travelled to San Francisco to see a show and stayed with a friend I met online, AND MY PARENTS LET ME.
Seriously, how cool were they?
Anywho, Kait and I met up in Boston when I lived there in 2011. We met up and promptly tweeted some variation of the following:
“Just met up with @fourteenacross. Guys, we have been friends online for a decade, and she is awesome and totally sane!!”
She introduced me to Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, Black Books and countless other amazing shows. She also will make me stop fucking around and get some writing done.
Online friends are not always as scary as parents make them out to be.
That was the same year I got my first tattoo too.
